An Interview with Felicia Corrigan

Felicia lives in West Chester with her husband, Jay, and their young son, Ezra. She’s been attending Covenant since 2017, when a friend invited her. She found community almost instantly and loves being part of the church family. She and Jay have been married for two years and attend the Culleys’ community group.

Felicia, you’re still a newlywed. What have you been learning about marriage?
I’m learning how to be a better communicator, especially in conflict. I tend to run away in fear when I sin and shut down when I feel hurt, but Jay encourages me to face and confess my sins and express my hurts. He leads so well in communication and in asking for and granting forgiveness. Jay models God’s gracious love towards me with his patience and kindness in the midst of my weaknesses and his humility in owning up to his own sins. I am thankful that God has given me a husband who complements me in so many edifying ways.

What is one way motherhood has changed your life?
I used to wake up ‪at 4 o’clock‬ in the morning and head out the door to get to my 4:30 shift at the Malvern Buttery. I would bake all the pastries for the day and watch the sun rise and my coworkers gradually trickle in. I worked my last shift in February and a few weeks later welcomed my son Ezra into the world…on my birthday! Now my morning starts at a different time every day but always with baby snuggles, and I think that’s just the best! My dream would be to start the day with a cup of coffee and the Word, but it’s a rare day that gets started that way.

What would you tell your younger self if you had the chance?
Be yourself! I’d tell myself that now, too. I’ve spent way too much of my life caring what other people think of me. It used to really paralyze me in a lot of contexts. I think I would have enjoyed my teenage years a lot more if I had felt the freedom to be myself.

Is there anything people might be surprised to learn about you?
When I was in college at The University of Pittsburgh, I discovered a love for rapping and spoken word. I occasionally performed at our Cru weekly meetings. Some pieces I wrote myself and some I just memorized from other people. I can still rap every word to “Don’t Waste Your Life” by ‪Lecrae‬!

What passage of Scripture is particularly meaningful to you?
I really love Psalm 16. There is so much beautiful truth about God and those who belong to God packed into that chapter. I especially love verse 8: “I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” I love verse 11 too: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” These verses are such great reminders that there is no better or more secure place for me than with God.

How can we be praying for you, Felicia?
I’d love prayer for wisdom in my new role as a mom and for self-control and discipline in spending time in the Word. I find time management to be an area in which I can use prayer for growth in every season of my life.
