Trials and suffering are part of our lives in this fallen world. We all face them, and God’s Word reminds us that we should not be surprised when they come, but I never seem to be prepared. Somehow in my distracted mind, I am never ready for the inevitable arrival of suffering. And I am certainly not aware, in the moment, of all that God wants to show me through them. If you knew me years ago, you would have seen someone with administrative and leadership gifts and very little room for grace. Although I would have always considered myself a compassionate person, I also lived by the letter of the law and expected everyone else to live the same way.
