Greetings from the Pastors College in Louisville, Kentucky! I’m happy to report that the entire Roman clan is doing well! For those who aren’t familiar with our family, my husband (Mikey), our son Tanner (3), our daughter Thea (2), and I have relocated temporarily for 10 months in order for Mikey to attend the Sovereign Grace Pastors College. And we’re already over halfway through the school year! Each week, Mikey has a different class which could range from topics like Systematic Theology, to Biblical Counseling, or even Sexual Ethics. Each week ends with a final, whether that’s a paper, project, or exam. This curriculum is definitely not for the faint of heart, and I am constantly in awe of the work ethic of the men in the class.
Now you might be thinking, “With a rigorous school load like that, do you ever see your husband?” Thankfully, the answer is yes! Mikey has developed a great balance between studies and family that doesn’t sacrifice quality on either end. We have our consistent weekly date night, and he is able to focus on family from the second he gets home until the kids go to bed. In fact, I think I’ve actually seen Mikey more since being at the Pastors College. Rather than juggling a full-time job in addition to pastoral internship and ministry responsibilities, it’s a nice change of pace for Mikey to only have to focus on school outside of family.
The kids have also adjusted well. We specifically prayed that other families coming to the Pastors College would have children around Tanner and Thea’s ages, and the Lord so graciously answered our prayers! There are a total of 18 kids among the PC families, and the majority are around ages 2-4. All of them get along tremendously. It’s been a massive blessing to be able to do life this year with other moms and for the kids to have such sweet friendships. A part of our weekly routine is to get together with several of the PC moms and their kids for story time at the library, which is a huge hit!
As for me, I have loved being poured into by ladies such as Julie Purswell, Kristin Chesemore, and Betsy Ricucci. The PC ladies meet with these women monthly for a couple of hours to enjoy breakfast, a time of prayer, and a message. These meetings have been a highlight of mine as they’re filled with so much wisdom and sweet fellowship. The PC wives also have their own community group where we meet to discuss Carolyn Mahaney’s book, Feminine Appeal. And while class is typically just for the guys, the wives have been invited to sit in on two classes which I thoroughly enjoyed!
For those who don’t know, we found out in November that we’re expecting another baby girl in July! My first trimester was incredibly rough, but thanks to the other PC families, we were greatly supported during that time. We truly are so thankful for the rich friendships we’ve developed with all of the students and wives in this year’s class and love how well we all get along.
As a family, we want to make sure Covenant Fellowship knows how thankful we are to be here and to have this unique opportunity. Thank you for all of your support this year! It’s been a year filled with blessing, growth, and lots of learning. We’ve seen God meet our family in precious ways, from the Spirit clearly working in Tanner, to Mikey and I being bolstered and rejuvenated in our faith. While we do love our time here, we miss our CovFel family so so much and look forward to being back with you all this summer!
